abolision of entrance exams

The state govt of tamil nadu has abolished the common entrance tests(CET) which were held hitherto for professional courses admission in the state…admission will now solely depend on higher secondary marks n rule of reservation...well…in my opinion, this is not a good idea… the standard of the state education is already not up to the mark,…many students try to understand the concepts for the prime sake of entrance tests..will this new system not lead to 200 200/200s claiming for a particular 100 seats???

CET, “a traumatic experience “ for students and parents in the words of the chief admistrative person of the state was got rid of for the benefit of rural students…hold on…aren’t we here bargainin the quality of education for the sake of education itself???

They say the board exam syllabus itself is now upgraded to cbse level…well that may be true… but then..shouldn’t this have waited until next year when the students learning this new revised syllabus face their board exams???

This system could’ve definitely waited for a year…but of course the assemble polls wouldn’t…

shahab has blogged on the same topic..he has discussed both the pros n the cons..do look at this too

spot on you are.

frankly i dont think this or any syllabus is gonna make a diffrence unless the questions are changed to test the concepts rather than "ghadam" thattaradhu

hi Sugunya ... This seems like a topic that is a lot spoken about! Somehow I feel this could be a boon, I remember the strains I had to go through to write my zillion exams after 12-th. But I do agree that the education system must be changed a lot before the system without entrance tests to prove effective!

hi ppl,

prabu karthik n gayathri,
i agree with u folks tat the system of education must be changed before any changes are made...

gayathri welcome to my blog:-)

its true tat v had to endure a lotsa pains b4 v got an admission in a coll..yes it may prove a boon wrt scoring n reducing the strain..

but i feel the CET was worth the strain :-)

ya i agree with gayatri's views:
1) zillions of entrance tests.
2) the coaching schools which have opened are concentrated in the city... but village folks never get decent schools let alone a coaching class.
3) the time between the college admission and after the boards is the only time a student can actually be stress free... no worries, no tensions.. no mom ki zik zik... i will oppose anything that even attempts to shorten this time.

hi ankoo,
welcome to my blog..
v r talking only abt CET conducted by the govt
the other entrance xams...the other xams r conducted by various coll to fill in their seats n pockets..
u r rite in saying there r no prper coaching centres in rurals..yes..that is where de govt shud concentrate.. to educate the rural mass.. analogically, v shudn't be surprisd if the govt takes away a few subj from curriculam, say maths, bcoz its tougher n the weaker students r not able to study..:-)

the question is not CET or otherwise but 'the quality of education'
